For Guys...

You think she might be pregnant.

You may wonder if she is carrying your baby?

Maybe friends and family are encouraging you towards an abortion.

Whatever your situation, you are not alone.

Here’s some quick advice that may be of benefit to you right now:

The Do’s

  1. Listen. The situation involves more than just you. There are now three lives to think about.
  2. Stay Calm. Freaking out will only magnify the negative. You are not the first couple ever to be in this spot.
  3. Talk about it. Hiding the news from people who can genuinely help you only increases the stress.

The Don'ts

  1. Do not bail. The more you run from this, the harder it becomes to think and act clearly.
  2. Do not pressure her. Applying pressure will only push her away, possibly into a regretful situation. Both of you would do well to work as a team.
  3. Do not forget. You have a very active role in this situation. Listen to input as well as give your thoughts.

It is true, we are here to help. We talk to many men about the choices they have when their facing an unplanned pregnancy.

Abortion seems like an easy and legal choice but it does have significant risks that you may not understand. You may not realize this but abortion has many risks for both of your futures.

Many women who have had abortions report that they were waiting for their boyfriend/husband to stop them. Some have said they sat on the table hoping the father of their baby would "rush through the door to rescue me and take me away somewhere safe." She needs your friendship now more than ever.

It is impossible to determine if you are the father of the baby until after the birth of the baby. If you have been with her sexually, assume that you are probably the father of her baby.

The world says that abortion is "a woman's choice" but the woman in an unplanned pregnancy rarely wants to make that choice alone. She is looking to you for support because she can not confide in many people about this situation. When women hear men say, "Do not look at me to tell you what to do," they often believe the man wants the abortion. Be careful you do not say something that you could regret. Assure her you will stand beside her through this. Reassure her she does not need to have an abortion to please or keep you.
